Slow Down. He's Trying to Show You Something.

By Kevin Pilger

Day 46 — April 21, 2026

A friend told me yesterday to go for a walk. Enjoy the day. It was beautiful outside — the kind of day that almost insists you step into it. But the day got busy, and I never made it out. So I went today instead.

Not far from the house there's a ball field — wide open, the kind of place where kids come to chase fly balls and slide into bases and feel like the whole world is a diamond waiting to be won. I pulled into the park and just… sat there for a while. Didn't rush out. Just prayed. Meditated. Let the quiet settle. And it was there — still in the car, before I ever opened the door — that I felt the Lord say something simple: I want to show you some things today.

So when I stepped out, I already knew. This wasn't just a walk. I was looking for something.

The Coach Needs You in the Game

As I walked past the field, my mind went back to a recent service at A Glorious Church. Our pastors, Chip and Candace Brim — Pastor Chip is a coach. Not just in the athletic sense, though he is that too. He's a shepherd who coaches. A pastor who trains champions.

He was sharing a story about his daughter. She was in sports when she was younger, and her coach would get on to her — hard. The kind of correction that could land wrong if you're not hearing it right. But Pastor Chip, because he's both a father and a coach, he understood what it meant. He told her: "If the coach is talking to you like that, it's because he needs you."

He needs you. He believes in you. He needs you to follow. He needs you to train. He needs you to give everything you've got.

I'm sitting in that service, and I wasn't called out by name — but I heard it anyway. I heard the Holy Spirit say, clear as anything: Pilger. I need you. I need you in the game.

And I've taken that to heart. I am all in. I am in the game. But this isn't just a game — let's be clear about that. This is the real thing. Jesus is coming. The harvest is real. And He's not calling us to spectate. He's calling us to play.

What You Miss When You're Not Looking

Here's what I noticed today on that walk that I would have completely missed if I had just been out there counting steps.

Dead leaves still falling from the trees — but new growth pushing through right behind them. God doing a new thing, right in front of anyone willing to look. Birds cutting through the air. Flowers moving in the wind. The warmth of the sun, real and full on my face.

A squirrel ran up to the water and took a drink. I smiled, because I thought of the Word — our heavenly Father provides for him. Doesn't he?

The turtles were shy. Sensitive to noise. Skittish. But if you sit still long enough, if you stay quiet and patient, their heads come up above the water. They start to swim. They relax. If you hold still long enough — you can hear the birds actually singing. Not just making noise. Singing.

And the ants — they were moving along with purpose. Steady. Faithful. If you don't look carefully, you walk right past them. Or worse — right over them. We've all done it. Didn't even register. No malice intended, just… completely elsewhere.

There were also some big stones scattered through the park. I thought about kicking one. Decided against it. Stubbed toes have a way of ending peaceful walks real fast.

All of it was there. All of it is always there. But I looked over and saw two workers near some construction equipment. One was watching the backhoe dig. One was looking at his phone. Neither of them saw what I saw. Not that morning, not in that moment. I'm not judging them. I've been that person. Most of us have.

He's Knocking. Can You Hear It?

The enemy's number one weapon right now is distraction — and it's always paired with deception. First he pulls your eyes away from what matters, then he fills that space with a lie about what does. Preoccupation is his strategy. Deception is his payload. And he's relentless about it — because he knows that the moment you stop, get quiet, and actually look around, you start to hear. And the moment you hear, his whole game falls apart.

Jesus talked about the sparrows. He talked about the lilies of the field — dressed in a glory that no king, in all his splendor, has ever matched. And if the Father cares about the sparrow, if He clothes the lily, how much more does He care about you?

You don't have to be subject to this world's system. You've been conditioned to move fast, stay distracted, consume, perform, repeat. But there is a greater way. A higher way. And He's calling you into it — today.

Stop for a moment. Close your eyes. Feel the warmth of the sun on your skin. Let the wind move through your hair. You'll feel it. A peace that doesn't come from this world — because it doesn't. It comes from Him.

He said He cares for you. He said He loves you. He said He would never leave you, never forsake you, never abandon you. He takes care of the orphan, the widow, the abandoned, the rejected. And He's watching over you right now, even in your sleep. He doesn't sleep. He doesn't slumber. He's counting the hairs on your head and He knows the number of your days. That's not poetry. That's the Word.

Encourage Yourself

I had a teacher — I loved that man. Cooper Beaty. A great man of God. Strong in the Word. He used to walk into class with a little puppet monkey and he'd start every lesson with a story. And he'd look out at us and ask, "Are you listening? Are you listening?" He wanted to hear it back. Yes, we're listening.

He'd have us confess who we were in Christ — out loud, even when our minds weren't fully on board yet — because he knew what happened when you give your spirit room to lead. Those were good days. Precious days.

But I believe the best days are still ahead. For those who have received Jesus as Lord and Savior — He has the best in store. Not in some distant, theoretical future. Now. In this season. Through every storm and every fire and every Day 46.

I was sitting on a bench out there today. Talking to myself. Preaching to myself, really. And I felt the anointing come on me — right there outside. Like David, I was encouraging myself in the Lord.

Sometimes that's what you have to do. You have to encourage yourself. You have to declare the Word even when the circumstances are saying something different. You have to lift your own voice toward heaven and remind yourself of what is true.

He Is Enough

Whatever you're facing today — whatever hardship, whatever trial, whatever situation feels like it has no way through — I want to say this as plainly as I know how: Jesus is enough.

Don't believe the lies. Don't receive the deception. The enemy is the father of lies, and destruction is his only agenda. He's not creative. He's not powerful. He's just loud. And distraction is his volume knob. Turn it down. Step outside. Slow down. Let the Lord speak.

He's knocking. He has been knocking. He's patient and He's good and He's not going anywhere. But the question is yours to answer today: Can you hear Him?

I love you. Go walk. — Kevin
